You Don’t Trust Yourself — And There’s a Reason Why
You say you don’t trust yourself. That you’re unsure. That your decisions don’t feel clear. That you need more certainty before you move forward.
But that didn’t start today.
There was a time, when you did trust yourself. When something felt right, and you followed it.
When something didn’t sit well —
and you paid attention.
You didn’t question it this much. You didn’t need to. So what changed?
It wasn’t that your intuition disappeared.
It was that you stopped listening to it. Not all at once. Gradually you ignored small things first.
A feeling you brushed off. A moment you doubted, a decision you overrode, and nothing dramatic happened. So you told yourself it was fine. But your body noticed. Because every time you ignore something that feels true, something shifts internally. You begin to disconnect from your own signals. And over time, that creates something subtle:
Hesitation.
Not because you don’t know, but because you’re no longer sure, if you’ll listen to yourself even if you do.
So now, when a feeling arises…
You question it. Is this real? Am I overthinking? What if I’m wrong? And instead of responding to-what you feel…
You look outward, for reassurance, for validation, for someone else to confirm what you already sensed.
This is how self-trust erodes.
Not because you lack intuition, but because you’ve taught yourself not to rely on it. And the more you do this, the quieter your internal voice becomes. This isn’t because it’s gone, but. because it’s no longer being met. So now you feel disconnected. Uncertain. As if you have lost something. But the truth is you haven’t lost it, you’ve just been out of relationship with it.
And rebuilding that doesn’t start with big decisions. It starts with small moments, noticing what you feel and not immediately dismissing it. Pausing before you override yourself.
Allowing something to be true, without needing to explain it away. Because self-trust is not built through certainty. It is built through consistency, through showing yourself again and again that when something feels true, you don’t abandon it.
🔮
You don’t trust yourself because somewhere along the way, you stopped standing by what you knew, and that can be rebuilt. Not by finding answers, but by returning to the ones you’ve been quietly ignoring.
